The O Gauge layout has a double track main line circuit with a fiddle yard at the rear.
At the front of the layout is a through station with platform loops and bays. There is a branch line which leaves the main line at the rear corner of the layout and drops slowly down hill along the front of the layout to a terminus at the other end.
There is a reversing loop across the centre which also gives access to a steam loco depot, a diesel depot and a small goods yard. The goods yard also has an access to an oil storage terminal where road takers are loaded. The steam loco depot has a shed, coaling and watering facilities and a turntable. The main station has a freight yard which deals with stone trains and a platform for mail and parcels traffic.
We have conventional DC and DCC controls. At present the layout is split into 3 sections, that is the UP MAIN, DOWN MAIN and BRANCH, we can select DC or DCC control for each one individually.
The track is mostly Peco Streamline with some Marcway points. The point motors are Tortoise.
The scenery and electrics are on going with some sections fully scenic and others not started, this gives members the chance to take on a section of layout to work on if they so wish.
We are currently building an extension to the O gauge where we are still track laying giving us a second branch line with a 3 platform terminus station.
The stock that the members run is quite varied, between us we have some of the following on the layout most Wednesday afternoons –
GWR pre 1948, BR Southern – 1950’s and 1960’s, BR Western – 1960’s/1970’s, Modern Image – 1980’s, LNER, LMS
The layout is available to members 7 days a week but the O Gauge members normally meet on Wednesday afternoon and evening. We have an all day running session on a Sunday once a month.
